Athletics as a sport is tremendously demanding. It requires extreme training, focus, and discipline for a professional athlete to be performing those incredible feats at a world stage.
Every year 15 of the world’s best athletics meetings are invited to participate in a series of top-level track and field athletics competitions. This is called the Diamond League. It is one of the most prestigious one-day meeting competitions in the world of athletics.
The Diamond League was created with the ulterior goal of increasing the popularity of athletics on the global stage by taking the competition to countries outside Europe.
Currently, non-European countries like China, Qatar, Morocco, and the United States participate in the Diamond League along with the original participants of the Golden League.
It has been called the Wanda Diamond League since December 2019, after a sponsorship deal was landed with the Wanda Group.
