Flawless Verstappen wins Monaco Grand Prix to take the Formula One 2021 season’s lead from the veteran Lewis Hamilton.
Max Emilian Verstappen was born on 30 September 1997. The Belgian-Dutch racing driver is currently displaying his flair in the Formula One championship 2021, which is touted by many to be his year. However, Max is already an F1 pro as he made his first competitive Formula One appearance for the Scuderia Toro Rosso outfit in 2015. He comes from a racing heritage, being the proud son of former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and Belgian Kart champion Sophie Lumpen. With such a star-studded lineage, Max was destined to achieve great heights. And honestly, the preparations began quite early.
Verstappen began Kart racing at the age of 4. In the year 2015, he became the youngest driver to compete in the Formula One Championships at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix, aged only 17 years and 166 days at the moment. This year is his 6th professional stint with the Red Bull Racing team. At a tender age of 23, Max has grown a pro and went on to become one of the most experienced F1 drivers. Giving the veterans like Hamilton a run for his money, Max has definitely evolved into one of the strongest contenders for the title this season.
Life and F1 career:
As a son of an established former F1 driver, Max was destined for a career in motorsport and he did not disappoint. After winning the national, international and world titles in Kart racing, he just had to wait to reach the required age for moving into single seaters. The opportunity came in the 2014 season where he contested in the FIA Formula 3 championship. There he won 10 races in the entire season and clinched the 3rd position despite competing against far more experienced oppositions.
But his ambitions were far higher. Max joined the Red Bull junior team in August that year. He made 3 FPI appearances in 2014. After that at the 2015 Australian Grand Prixhere he created history by becoming the youngest driver to appear in a Grand Prix in the history of the sport. Max has a knack with going down in the history record books and making history himself! His historical achievements did not stop there as he went on to become F1’s youngest point scorer with the 17th position in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
His second season with Red Bull announced his immense talent to the world and his insatiable hunger to claim bigger prizes. Since then Max has consistently contributed to his win tally and established himself as a contender for the championship.
In the 2020 F1 season, Max became victorious in the 70th anniversary Grand Prix at the fabled Silverstone Circuit and at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. He displayed a superb and unparalleled consistency in the 2020 season, finishing on the podium 11 times out of the 12 races.
The Formula One 2021 season:
Some Formula One pundits are already saying that the 2021 season is going to be Verstappen’s year. Battling bad luck at the Bahrain Grand Prix where he had to let rival Lewis Hamilton take the first position since he drifted off-track, and the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix where the race was suspended when he was on lap 33, Verstappen has given Lewis Hamilton a serious challenge in both the Portuguese and Spanish Grand Prix races afterward. Finally, Verstappen has taken the lead in the Championship after finishing at the top spot in today’s race.
Today he clinched the title at the fabled and hazardous Circuit de Monaco, amidst the picturesque landscape of Monte Carlo. Verstappen took the Formula One Championship lead from Mercedes’s British pro-Lewis Hamilton. The ace driver ended seventh in the highly anticipated event at the Monaco Grand Prix, which is, unfortunately, his worst result since the Italian Grand Prix last year.
It is quite evident that Max’s focus from now will be on dominating the following races and maintaining his lead at the commanding position that he has already created for himself. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit will see whether Max successfully conquers the next stages in the Championship.
Net worth, Salary and Personal car collection:
The 23 years old F1 racing driver’s current estimated net worth is around a staggering 70 million USD which is certainly a great feat to achieve in such a short career span. Since his career graph looks quite promising, those figures are expected to rise quite exponentially. Despite being quite young compared to his other racing compatriots, he is already one of the richest F1 drivers and sportsmen in the world.
Sources informed that he will earn a reported 25 million USD in 2021 which makes him the driver with the second highest salary after the 7-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton.
Max’s personal car collection involves a sparkling Renaultsport R.S. 01, Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
